The 50 Steps Project

Due to some unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances, I haven't been able to blog at all this past week. Not that much has happened to begin with it. Now don't start with that, "But you're in LONDON," business. Sometimes it's pretty quiet 'round these parts.

So while finish sitting out my week of quiet respite, I'll introduce you to my first photojournalism project! As a photojournalism major myself, I was beyond excited to get to take a photo class right here in London. (And with an attractive, blue-eyed man teaching the class!)

For this first project, we needed to begin at a certain point, then walk fifty steps, then take a picture of something around us. Then take another fifty steps, then a picture. Then yet another fifty steps, with, guess what, a picture. And on and on we go until we have taken fifty different pictures. The catch is that we only pick ten to show to the class for critique.

My friend Kalli (who intended to come along for the ride, and ended up holding my lenses) and I decided to begin at a famous place, somewhere that we had never been before.

We started our photo-taking adventures at Tralfagar Square. We wandered away after that, sneaking down side streets, coming across the most gorgeous, old buildings and columns, until we found a park.

This park, as a sign informed us once we had entered, was St. James's park. And if you know anything about St. James's, then you know that it backs up to a certain famous palace.

Whose name begins with a "B" and ends in "-uckingham".

Who would have guessed that my fiftieth step would land Kalli and me almost right at the gates of one of the most famous landmarks in London? This was a complete accident, I assure you.

I won't post all fifty of the pictures here, because that would take forever, and I'm sure you have something else to do with your life. Here are the ten pictures that I presented to my photojournalism class:

The skeleton horse in Trafalgar Square

Stairs to nowhere

A beautiful courtyard

I'm not sure  what this is, but I love this

Part of a spherical peace sculpture near the Churchill war rooms

A nice raven that posed for me

Lovely fall blooms at St. James's Park

Aesthetic lamp

Waiting for someone special

It's never a great idea to get too close to a swan...

I love living here in London, and I'm always ready to see new places, especially when i have my camera in hand!
